Klaragymnasium Linköping, Sweden

Presentation

Klara Linköping is a High School in the city of Linköping. It has existed since 2005 and is part of the educational company ACADEMEDIA. The school has four major programs for students to chose from, some of them split into subcategories in order to cater to students’ wants and needs. The programs are Business Management and Economics Programme divided into Economics and Law, Social Science Programme divided into Social, Behavioural Sciences and Media, Communications and Journalism, Natural Sciences and our VET-programme Business Administration and Trade.

Klara Linköping has approximately 420 students and thirty teachers and works hard towards making the students prepared for higher learning and the job market. They teach an extended curriculum with extra emphasis on language studies like French, German and Spanish, but also Young Business and on-site job training for VET-students.

Klara Linköping has had some experience with international work. During the late two-thousands and on our VET students did their job training in Spain and we would have regular contact with companies there. The school also coordinates language trips to Germany, France and Spain, and has had cultural studies in Cambridge. The Social Studies students have even journeyed to Cracow in Poland on three occasions for cultural studies.

The media programme was for a long time our pride and joy. It set us apart and the magazine they put out won several awards. With the decline of print media the programme needed to move into a more digital sphere and is now well versed in IT, communications and social media. They learn all the tools necessary for these projects.

This project will secure Klara Linköping and ACADEMEDIA as a leading educational facility in Linköping. Allowing us to share our knowledge and experience with both the city and other pedagogical institutions. It will boost the standing of the school and help spread the good word. Our IT-skills, language skills and global competency are our strengths.

The school has been partially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Mostly because the school has been closed and we have had to move to remote teaching. This has on the other hand forced us to up our digital skills and taught us how to solve problems using the digital tools at hand. We have been the leading school in the city using digital tools.

Experience

Klara Linköping is comprised of a variety of teachers who teach various subjects. Many of them have worked with international projects or have been involved in projects within the organization. We have close to thirty-year experience among us and have worked both with job shadowing, on site job training for students and field trips to foreign countries. The people listed below are those who in some capacity will help Christopher Marry Hultman, the project manager on our end. Some will be more involved than others, and some will assist in hosting, planning and brain storming.

HANS PETERSSON is the Headmaster of Klara Linköping and has worked with international projects for a long time. He was intimately involved in the VET programs job training in Spain for many years and supervised the students in person. He oversees all international projects and will be involved in hosting guests and the budget. He is the resident IT-expert and a computer programmer.

Fredrik Halsius teaches mathematics and programming. He is second to none when it comes to spreadsheet work and planning, as well as organizing. Victor Lind is a seasoned man when it comes to international work. He has been involved in projects in Korea and Germany, job shadowing and studying. He is eager to work in an international capacity. Lars Björk has his roots in Finland and teaches Biology, Geography and Natural Sciences. He has worked at various schools with international projects. Among them China and Italy. Oskar Hofstam teaches business, law and social studies at Klara Linköping. He is the head of the Economics Department and has some experience traveling the world, but little with international work. He will be doing his first international work trip in October, when he travels to Munich, first to get a feel for the city and then in 2022 when he will take 30 students studying Corporate Law.

Yasmin Ali Kärnsund teaches English and Religion at Klara Linköping. She is the youngest member of our group but has already had experiences with international work as she has done job shadowing in the UK and will be traveling to Limerick, Ireland next year to do the same. Svante Petré teaches German and Mathematics, and sometimes English at Klara Linköping. In this capacity he has been involved in several international trips, especially to Berlin, where he and students practise their German and take in the culture of the country. He has also been part of an international group doing trips with students to Poland on three occasions. Svante has been involved in international work in one capacity or another for several years.

CHRISTOPHER MARRY HULTMAN is an American expat who has lived and worked in Sweden for past twenty plus years. A teacher of English, Swedish, History, Religion and Creative Writing he is responsible for Global Networking and international relations at Klara Linköping. He has been involved in previous international travels, most importantly trips to Cracow in Poland. This trip was taken three years in a row with about 30 students each time. The goal was to educate the students in the historical significance of medieval Poland and we even took a trip to Auschwitz. Christopher is currently working towards international visits to the sister city of Linköping, Joensuu in Finland, as well as visits to Italy, Germany and Hungary.

Klara Gymnasium Vallgatan, Sweden

Presentation

Klara Teoretiska Gymnasium Vallgatan is located in the downtown area of Gothenburg, Sweden. We currently have about 350 students in grades 10-12 specializing in science, social studies, vocational diplomas and business studies. The staff of 30 consists of certified teachers, school management, and a student welfare team.

Our students come from in and around the city of Gothenburg, which means that we have a great diversity among our students. This is a fact we are proud of and continuously keep promoting. Furthermore, we pride ourselves in emphasizing the importance of a sustainable development of society in everything we do. We also nurture close ties to the higher educational system and do our best to prepare our students for further studies.

Currently, we are involved in two Erasmus+ projects. Firstly, we are hosting foreign teachers for a job shadowing experience here in our school, and will be sending out our own faculty members starting 2021. Secondly, we are involved in a five-country exchange program with schools in France, Italy, Poland, and Spain. This project is scheduled to launch in the school year 2021/22.

Job shadowing is an area that we have been wanting to take part in and develop pedagogical approached designed to get the greatest benefits for our school, our pupils & our trainees.

We will work in tandem with Klaragymnasium Linköping through every step of the project, coordinating our work on the project & increasing the impact in 2 of the most populous parts of Sweden in our city of Gothenburg & Linköping, the partner city.

Klara Vallgatan is taking a great interest in branching out and extending its international network. The staff is actively working on developing pedagogical strategies and differentiating our approach to teaching and learning. Through our open mindedness and willingness both to share knowledge and to learn from others, we would be ideal for collaborating on this project intended to set guidelines for what a meaningful job shadowing experience is. We firmly believe that having educated and knowledgeable teachers are, at the end of the day, what benefits the students the most.

Experience

As mentioned above, we are already involved in several Erasmus+ projects and are looking to expand our commitment to both learning from and sharing knowledge with our European partners. The staff at Klara Teoretiska Gymnasium Vallgatan is very much involved in a continual collegial learning process and could offer a great deal of experience on how to benefit from each other as teachers. We regularly visit each other’s classrooms and discuss various aspects of teaching, learning, and classroom management.

Moreover, we can offer the perspective of an English and German language teacher and someone with abundant experience from various international exchange programs. Also, we offer dedicated staff members who would be happy to share their knowledge while also learning from foreign colleagues. In other words, we can contribute with previous international experience, a committed and engaged workforce as well as a productive learning environment.

SUAH NILSSON AND KRISTINA TENGELIN will be representing Klara Vallgatan. Suah is the head principal of the school and has abundant experience of improvement work within the Swedish school system. More specifically, this means organizing and administering projects designed to enhance the overall quality of the school, including elaborating on teaching methods and enabling the faculty members to enrich their competence through collegial learning. Suah’s experience also includes a leadership role in several international student projects, for example in South Africa. Along with the ASSOCIATION COMMUNITY (ARQUES), they have also said that they are willing to take part in the experimentation phase.

UNIVERSIDAD PABLO DE OLAVIDE, SÉVILLE has its own Erasmus+ Charter & all students at both Bachelor & Master levels are encouraged to undertake a study period of work-based learning abroad. The University will also disseminate the results amongst its network of partner universities all over the world.

These partners include universities who run lifelong learning VET courses, associations, VET education training centres, business associations, mobility service providers, a cultural body & chambers of commerce. This will help to increase the breadth & impact of the project. They will be invited to meetings, focus groups, evaluation workshops & conferences in their neighbouring countries & have agreed to cover costs from their own funds.

The breadth of partners will add to the TRANS-SECTORAL IMPACT OF THE PROJECT. The JBSE results will be adaptable for use for Job Shadowing in the School, Higher Education , Adult & Youth sectors.
